Welcome to the

Southern Alberta Primary Care Research Network (SAPCReN)

About Us

SAPCReN is a multidisciplinary collaboration of primary health care providers and researchers working to rigorously address research questions derived from clinical practice. Since our inception in 2007, SAPCReN has grown to include over 300 members.

SAPCReN supports research relevant to the primary care setting, with a wide range of studies relating to topics such as disease prevention and health promotion, screening and early diagnosis, surveillance, and management of various health conditions.

Help Shape the Future of the Primary Care Sleep Apnea Clinical Pathway

In December 2018, a new primary care clinical pathway launched in the Calgary Zone of AHS. The pathway aims to improve care for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) by supporting independent management of OSA by primary care providers in the community.

Researchers from the University of Calgary are speaking with primary care physicians and nurse practitioners from across the Calgary Zone who care for OSA patients and may have used the new pathway.

They want to hear whether you use the pathway, how you use it, and gather feedback for future pathway enhancements in a ~30 minute interview, by phone or video call. You will be compensated with $200 for your time.

If you are interested, please get in touch with the study team. Email: sleepresearch@ucalgary.ca | Phone: 403 220 5838

My Kidney My Health is an interactive e-health self-management tool that provides tailored guidance and supporting information to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their caregivers. The website was developed by a multidisciplinary research team to support patient and caregiver understanding and active management of CKD, as well as slow progression. Key topics and priorities were identified by patients, and the website content is based on evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Consider sharing https://mykidneysmyhealth.com/ with your patients today!

A team of family physicians from the University of Ottawa and Montfort Hospital are implementing an Automated Patient Engagement System for primary care practices. The aim is to enable family physicians and nurse practitioners to send messages about practice or COVID-19 related topics to patients by email/text. As a part of this project, they will also reach out to patients who are yet to be vaccinated for COVID-19 to understand and develop a targeted approach to address vaccine hesitancy. They are recruiting physicians and nurse practitioners with a family/general practice who are willing to adapt this outreach method within their practice. For more information, click here or reach out to the study team via email info@cpin-rcip.com or by telephone at 613-746-4621 ext. 6420.
